Our Version of Boating

I don’t know what it is about being on a boat, but being on a boat always makes me feel cooler. And the “I’m on a Boat” song inevitably starts playing in my head. This is exactly what happened on Sunday when I was on not one, but two boats with some friends from work.

Actually, let’s be real: we rode the East River Ferry from Brooklyn (where we had brunch) back to Manhattan.

We passed by the Domino Sugar Factory (which I heard is getting torn down – can anybody confirm?), where Kara Walker built a 75-foot sculpture coated in sugar this summer.

We also passed Dumbo in Brooklyn where the Brooklyn Bridge Park is located and where I watched fireworks and a movie

With seagulls and open water around, it’s almost like being on the ocean..which was our original plan for the day!

I also went kayaking here.

Ok, and this kid was AWESOME for noticing that I was taking pictures and smiling for me. I call this “street photography.” #notcreepyjustobservant

After crossing the river, we reached Manhattan near the financial district.

I thought this yellow water taxi cab was so cool! Only in New York, right?

After we got off…we hopped onto another ferry to Staten Island. Bonus: this ride was free!

Headed towards the dock.

The big deal about the Staten Island Ferry is that you get to see the Statue of Liberty on the way. So here she is:

Honestly, I don’t see the big deal. You can’t even go up to her crown anymore 🙁 Still a nice view though.

Finally, we ended the day with ice cream from Morganstern’s. They had really unique flavors like American egg, strawberry durian, and black ass licorice…

But I stuck with raw milk. It was a good day!

P.S. I took many photos and not all of them made it into this post. Check out my Flickr if you’d like to see more!
