Whirlpool State Park

Alright, here we go…getting closer to Niagara Falls with Whirlpool State Park as a preliminary pit stop. It was the definition of a pit stop – I had all of 15 minutes – but in that time, I peered over the ledge to see what all the fuss was about.

And then I understood.

Jaw. Drops.

The bluest rapids swirling, crashing, and thundering by.

There’s Canada!

The water’s brilliant shade of turquoise reminded me of Lake Lucerne while on my way to the Swiss Alps and Rhine Falls (both in Switzerland). Seeing water this clear, this blue is not easy, so I am always impressed when I get a chance to see such natural (untainted) beauty.

If the weather were any better, I probably would have ventured further on this trail. But as luck would have it, it rained the entire trip.

I bet this place looks even more colorful in the springtime with all of its wildflowers in bloom!

Though I didn’t take many pictures here, I thought it was worth sharing the few that I had. Definitely glad I had a few moments to marvel at this beauty before heading to (crowded) Niagara Falls. If you’re in the area, it’s only a ~15 minute drive north of the Falls. Have you been?

What is your favorite state park?
